And to answer the previous comment...the first man-woman is touched upon a bit in the varaha avatara. But yes...not too much exposure.
maybe we have a predilection to not believe in the intelligent design theory -- so the concept of first man/woman makes no sense!
on a different note i have heard theories that the 10 avatars represent evolutionary stages {but of course infinite amount of retrofitting of scientific theory to hindu myths keeps happening all the time}
